Turn your saree into a dress in 6 steps ❤️

I have had rather funny memories with sarees. Out of all of them, nothing beats the memory of my saree opening on stage amidst a dance performance. That day I learnt, there is nothing called ‘enough safety pins’. There needs to be at least 10 around your pleats  ( just kidding).

Every year the Tohoku University Foreign Students Association (TUFSA) organizes the Tohoku University International Festival. It is the biggest student based festival in Sendai with a footfall that varies between 3000- 4000. To bridge the gap between international students and the localities of Sendai, this year the festival catered to 22 food stalls, 16 interactive corners and one global stage that hosted several performances from across the world. However this festival is special to me, it was started as an Indian festival organized by my family 34 years ago and ever since it's been continued by various international students.

Location: Sendai

Having got the opportunity to be on the organizing committee of this festival for the last 2 years, this year I decided to be a participant instead and just enjoy. This look was curated for the fashion show where my two close friends and I showcased the various ways of wearing the Indian saree.

This look is rather simple, hassle-free and requires minimal efforts. So let's get to it.

Items you require

1. An inner, crop top or a bralette
I went for a black leotard which can be brought from At Chic Republic.

2. Pants
I am wearing solid suede pants from Shein.

3. A beautiful light weighted saree
I chose this saree from Myntra, I love chiffon sarees as they give my body shape and cause I am petite, the pleats don't make me look huge.

4. A belt to bring the whole look together.
I went for the double buckle belt that I picked up from a random shop in Japan. You can find a similar one in golden in Shein.

Steps

I decided to give a step by step picture tutorial instead of a video tutorial, as genuinely speaking, I hate to constantly pause the video, while i execute steps.

Step 1

Step 1: So this look should be your base, on which you will start wrapping the saree.

Step 2
Step 2: Take the two ends of the narrow part of your saree and make a knot. Repeat the same for the other narrow part as well.

Step 3
Step 3: Insert your arms into the two holes that you created through your knots and make sure the knots rest on your shoulders.

Step 4
Step 4: Now with the remaining cloth behind you, start creating pleats. To give it a more flowy feel, do not pleat the remaining cloth completely till the end.

Step 5
Step 5: Tuck your pleats to the back of your pants. Make sure you spread the non-pleated parts of the cloth into your pants as well.

Step 6
Step 6: Coming back to the front, take your belt and tie it across the narrow part of your waist and spread the saree a little at the part where the belt buckles and voila you are good to go.

Hope you ladies love the look. Do not forget to tag me on Instagram or Facebook if you ever try it out.

Loads of love
