Candidly yours Dr. Minimalsitic

As I write my first blog post, all that I can think of are my followers reacting in the same way as Karan Johar did in the song ‘Aankh Marey’. With that being said, before you dismiss this as another blogger who is here to just give out more ‘Gyan (experience) talk’, why don’t you get to know me a little.

With my mom being Filipino and dad Indian, my looks are often confused with that of a north-eastern or a Nepali (which I take as a compliment, having done my research work in Meghalaya, i find north-eastern girls to be drop-dead gorgeous, polite and so loving). As a child brought up in Kolkata, I was raised with a tinge of Bengali traditions, however, the love for maanch (fish) lost its way somewhere. Oh, but then there is always Rosogulla.

Crawling in my diapers and being chased down by 15 Doberman puppies, is what my childhood was made of. I remember taking cookies and leaving for school an hour early to be able to spend time and feed puppies around the block . Most of the dogs that have been a part of my family before I was born were adopted. However, my first pet adoption came in the form of a small white Lhasa- Fluffy.

After I completed my masters, I genuinely had no clue about my next step. I did not instantly decide on doing a doctorate. A part of me was attached to fashion and after many nights of deliberation with the family, I was allowed to go for an internship with a fashion firm in Delhi. At that time, Delhi was still dealing with the aftershock of the recent rape case which resulted in a number of parents discouraging their girls from moving to the state.  This pushed me to write a rather angry piece on why is the society punishing women for a crime done to a woman? With support from family, I went on to pursue a doctorate in Women Empowerment in Japan.
It’s been 2.5 years in Japan and ever since I started my doctorate, my passport has become one of the necessities in my bag. Most of the travels are work related which are in the form of either conference, collaborations or professor meetups, while some are in the form of vacations and reunions. I love to go to unconventional places that a normal tourist would not go. Be it Takamatsu in Japan or Makassar in Indonesia. With questions coming into my social media to either which place is this or what is this food called? I decided maybe it’s time I blog some of my travel.
Location: Shiroishi Castle

Be it fashion or be it travel, I like minimal hassle. My idea of fashion is all about making bare essentials stylish. And with this idea, I created Dr. minimalistic. This blog hopes to promote more pet adoptions, to travel to unconventional places, to understand the importance of societal change for empowerment and to do it all in style.
